Coretta Shirley

Coretta Anguish Shirley 86 of Henderson, KY, passed away on Sunday April 21,  2024 at Redbanks Nursing Home under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice.

Coretta was a proud union member and supporter of the AFLCIO. She worked as a production seamstress at Bear Brand/Audubon Hosiery Mill for 28 years before switching careers and becoming an insurance agent for Lincoln Income and American General Insurance Companies. Coretta loved her family, her very large extended family and never wanted to miss a family gathering.  

Coretta was a member of Mt. Olivet Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Mother’s Board. 

In addition to her parents, Charles and Cora (Thomas-Whitlock) Anguish, she was preceded in death by sister-in-law and best friend, Patricia Ann Anguish.  

Coretta is survived by her husband: John G. Shirley, Sr.; daughter: Diane Shirley, Evansville, IN; son: John G. Shirley, Jr. (Annette ‘Netta’) Arlington, TX; her only grandchild: Calvin D. Goddard (Evansville); her beloved baby brother: Rev. Dr. Anthony ‘Tony’ Anguish, Sr. (Henderson);and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to Coretta’s visitation between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Saturday ,April 27 at Mt. Olivet Missionary Baptist Church, 235 S. Adams Street, Henderson, KY. Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Rev. Dr. Anthony Anguish, Sr. officiating.

A brief burial service will follow at Fernwood Cemetery, Henderson.
