Clayton Townsend

October 13, 1941 — January 12, 2016

Clayton Townsend, 74, passed away January 12, 2016 at his home. He worked at Roundy’s for 30 years and was a1959 Lincoln High School graduate.

Clayton was preceded in death by his parents: Frank & Callie (Williams) Townsend; a son, James Guest; and a brother, Joe Townsend.

Clayton was a member of Sons of the American Legion Post #354. He loved to play basketball and tennis. The Off Season Athletic Club was a club that he and his friends started together. As one who loved to play Bid Whist and Spades, he was a faithful Thursday night card player at the Legion with his longtime friends. You would think World War II was going on when they played. It was a serious game for all of them - no fighting, just a lot of loud talking. He also enjoyed grilling and hosting get-togethers with family and friends.

Clayton leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Deborah Townsend; his brother, Charles Townsend; seven children: Callie Jeffries, Ronda (Greg) Alston, Gwenene (Stanley) Lane, Tonya (Donald) Smith, Tammy (Dwenass) Harris, Classie (Chris) Norfleet, and Chrissy (Brandon) Behme; and 21 grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Starchy Anderson for his faithful visits and words of encouragement to Clayton and would also like to thank Deaconess VNA.
