Chester Nathaniel Cheaney

Chester Nathaniel Cheaney, 82, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Deaconess Hospital-Midtown. He was born on February 16, 1942, in Henderson, Kentucky, the son of the late Levi and Sudie (Brooks) Cheaney.

Chester graduated from Lincoln High School in 1960 and enlisted directly into the United States Air Force, where he served from 1960-1964. He also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves from 1964-1966. After his military service, he was employed by George Koch & Sons, where he worked for over 35 years. He was married to the former Gwendolyn Williams from 1969-1981. 

Chester possessed a kind and compassionate heart, always helping anyone who was in need. He was a patient father who always reminded his children and grandchildren to “take your time” and to be kind to themselves. According to his brothers and close friends, he was an avid sports lover who was an excellent athlete who could play any sport professionally. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Cheaney; brothers, Robert Cheaney, Elmo Cheaney, Rev. Willis Cheaney, and Raymond Cheaney; and son-in-law, Flint Douglas. 

He is survived by his three children, Camille Douglas, Calbert (Yvette) Cheaney, and Elizabeth (Jesse) Watkins; five grandchildren, Brandon Douglas, Julian Cheaney, Sydney Cheaney, Jeremiah Watkins, and Korie Watkins; brother, Donald (Ollie) Cheaney; sister, Brenda Cheaney; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

The funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. is open to family and friends only.
