Charles Derek “Bevo” Burris was born October 19, 1963, in Evansville, Indiana to Judith A. Greene-Burris and to the late Charles T. Burris. He departed this life on April 8, 2023, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
At a young age of fifteen, he started working at Methodist Hospital in Materials Management where he retired after 32 years. He went on to work for the Henderson County School System at North Middle School as a crossing guard and lunchroom monitor. Derek owned and operated Burris Lawn Services.
He was a faithful member of Greater Norris Chapel Baptist Church of Henderson, Kentucky where he served as a bus driver.
Derek played football for Henderson County High School, where he got his honorary nickname “Bevo” from the late Mojo Hollowell. He also played softball and lifted weights.
Derek was a loving and devoted husband, father, uncle and friend to many. He will truly be missed.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by grandparents: John Wesley, Beulah Mae Groves, Sallie Mae Burris, and John Frances Burris Sr.; uncles: John Frances Burris Jr. of Henderson, Kentucky, LeValle Burris of Henderson, Kentucky, Maxie Starling Jr of Atlanta, Georgia; and aunt: Carolyn Louise Holiman of Evansville, Indiana.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 33 years: Pamela Burris; and daughter: Carol Burris both from Henderson, KY; sisters: Becky Burris (Tony) of Henderson, KY, Christa Minor of Evansville, IN; mother: Judith Greene-Burris; nephew: Zae’Shaun Foreman, Rahim Washington, and Khalil Washington; nieces: Khiya Patterson and Dezarae Minor; 3 aunts: Dorothy Burris AKA Boodie of Evansville, IN, Fannie Mae Warren of Evansville, IN, and Darnell Dickerson of New York; uncle: William Henry Burris of Evansville, IN, and a host of cousins and friends.
