Carthal “Carty” Meland Burks Jordon was born in Hopkinsville, KY on January 17, 1935. She entered Heaven’s gates on February 5, 2017. As a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great grandmother; she was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. She also had a great sense of style, as she enjoyed fashion, loved to shop, sew, and crotchet. She was united in marriage to James E. Jordon, Sr. on December 20, 1952.
Carthal was a graduate of Lincoln High School, class of 1953 and was a member of the Ebony Ladies Club. She had an unwavering faith in God, as she accepted Christ into her life at a young age. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was baptized as of May 18, 1963. After retiring from USI, Carty spent her spare time volunteering at the church helping in the office, food banks, and ministries. She had no hesitation jumping in and helping where she was needed.
Carthal was preceded in death by her loving husband James E. Jordon, Sr. in 1988. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Minnie Thomas Gardner, her father Willie Burks, Sr., her sister Bessie Waller, her brother Thomas Burks, her son James E. Jordon, Jr., and grandson Nicodemus R. Jordon.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters: Felecia Jordon, Pamela Jordon, and Charlotte Hester; her sons Thomas Jordon, Michael Jordon, Joseph Jordon, and Hollis Jordon, Jr. She had 20 grandchildren, Ronrico Shane (Charita), Ronesha Melvin (Erick), Marcus Hester, Christopher Jordon, Robyn Jordon, Edward Jordon, Ashley Strayhorn (Justin), Trey Jordon, Taron Jordon, Adrian Jordon, Tevin Jordon, Darius Gilbert, Mia Davis, Melana Davis, Michael Davis, Shauntel Jordon, Brittney Richardson (Dadrion), Alexis Jordon, Joseph Jordon, Alyssa Jordon, and a host of great- grandchildren among other loving relatives and friends.
