Carolyn A. Pettus was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 19, 2016. She passed way at Hopkinsville’s Jennie Stuart Medical Center from cardiac arrest.
On the day of January 28, 1959, Carolyn A. Pettus was born to the late Laverne Pettus Simms and the late Raymond A. Simms, Sr. in Earlington, Kentucky. She professed her faith in Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Earlington, Kentucky under the leadership of Pastor A. B. Taylor.
Carolyn will be remembered for her kind and gentle heart. She always enjoyed cooking and singing and she always made sure the neighborhood had something to eat. She welcomed others in need for shelter, babysitting, and hot meals. She loved being a “stay-at-home” mom, not only for her own children but for others as well.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Johnny Baxter and Raymond Simms, Jr.
She leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory a daughter, LaTavia D. Pettus of Hopkinsville; two sons: Elvin D. Hopson, Jr. of Hopkinsville and Keyvonte D. Pettus of Louisville KY; two grandsons: Elvin D. Hopson, III and Michael Quarles, Jr. - both from Hopkinsville; one brother, Ronald Ray Baxter of Madisonville KY; three sisters: Mary L. Pettus of Madisonville KY, Sheila K. Richards (Paul) of Ozark Al, and Valerie Simms of Earlington; two uncles: James A. Pettus of Danville VA, and O’Neal Stone of Earlington; five aunts: Rosie Mae Pettus, Beatrice Pettus, Hiwatha Thomas - all of Earlington KY, Romania Chestine of Evansville IN, and Juanita Hall of Indianapolis IN; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, friends and other family.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 1:00pm at Mason & Sons Funeral Home, 409 E. Noel Avenue, Madisonville KY. Condolences may be left at
