Carolyn Marie Floyd was born in Basket Station in Henderson, KY to the late Marie Isadora (Gilbert) Floyd and Morris Floyd on March 7, 1940. She departed this life on Wednesday morning, May 29, 1:45 a.m. at Redbanks Nursing Facility. She was raised by the late Reverend Clarence Gilbert and Bertha Gilbert (whom she called momma).
She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age in 1953. She joined New Jerusalem Baptist Church and was baptized downtown in the river by Reverend Adams. She attended church with the late Reverend Clarence Gilbert and he would call on her to sing, “I Can Still Hear Momma Praying.” In 1973 she became a working member at New Race Creek Baptist Church under Reverend Chester Hatchett. There she worked on the Ways and Means committee, Usher Board, and the kitchen. In her later years, she became a member of the Mothers’ Board.
As her health declined, she was no longer able to attend services. She listened to church services online, eventually deciding to go back to her home church. She reverted her tithes and offerings to New Jerusalem Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and taught her children to lean and depend on him.
She was preceded in death by her daughters: Gloria Floyd Holmes, Peggy Gregory, and Faye M. Floyd; and granddaughter: Kalie Malone.
Her memories will be cherished by her daughter: Corina Floyd of Bowling Green, KY; son: Clarence (Bubba) Floyd of Evansville, IN; brother: Morris Floyd, Jr. of Chicago, IL; grandchildren: Jason, Marvin, Angela, Karlos, Terrence, Quinton, Vercara, Jestiny, and Johnsha; 14 great grandchildren; a great great grandson; and a host of cousins and friends.
She never allowed anyone to tell her goodbye. She would say “Later alligator….After while crocodile”.
For I am now ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.
