Bettie Ruth Boyd King, daughter of the late Jimmie and Geneva Boyd, was born March 7, 1931 in Cerulean, KY. She was the second of five children and confessed her hope in Christ at an early age. The family moved to Evansville, IN in 1945 where Bettie graduated from Lincoln High School. In 1953, she was united in matrimony with Cleveland D. King Sr. From this union two sons were born: Cleveland D. King, Jr. and Kalvin C. King. Bettie was a longstanding member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Mission Board, Decorations Committee, as the janitor, and was the chairman of the church’s annual program. Bettie will always be remembered for her charm, dependability, and kindness to all.
In addition to her parents, Bettie was preceded in death by sisters: Bobbie Johnson, Alberta Boyd, Clara Gray and brother: Jake Boyd; granddaughter: Melanye King.
Bettie will be greatly missed by her sons: Cleveland D. King, Jr. (Virginia), Kalvin C. King, Sr. (Michelle Simpson) both of Evansville; granddaughters: Atoyra King of Evansville, Shanica Denton of Indianapolis, Donyale Washington of Evansville; grandsons: Mel'Dre King of Minneapolis, MN, Kalvin King, Jr. of Indianapolis, Antonio Johnson of Evansville; daughter: Lucy Radford of Evansville.; a host of great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friend; and special friend: Orlando Johnson of East Chicago, IL.
