Barbara Jean (Barrett) Sydnor, 82 , passed away peacefully on August 2nd, 2022 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. Barbara was born on June 16, 1940, to the late Lawrence R. Barrett, Sr. and the late Mattie M. (Wagner) Barrett. Barbara was a 1958 graduate of Lincoln High School where she was a majorette. She was also a member of the Lincoln Clark Douglass Alumni Association. After high school, she attended Bramwell Business College and Lockyear College. She worked for Schamberg Department Store for 15yrs, for Chester Graves Accounting, and for Dallas Sprinkles. When she later moved to Seattle, Washington, she worked at Neiman Marcus Brothers and Todd Shipyard. After returning to Evansville, Barbara went on to work for EVSC at many different schools including Washington and Glenwood Elementary where she was a Special Education Assistant, Tekoppel where she began her expertise as a Kindergarten Assistant, and Hebron Elementary from which she retired in 1999. Mrs. Sydnor loved her Kindergarten classes and absolutely enjoyed her job. She taught hundreds of children in the Evansville area. Anyone who truly knew her knew her passion was for children and books! She had her own personal library and loved reading books from the author Danielle Steele. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents: Lawrence R. Barrett, Sr., Mattie M. Barrett; her brothers: Lawrence R. Barrett, Jr, Rev. Donald Barrett; nephew: Alonzo Barrett; and stepson: Herbert “Keith” Sydnor Jr. She leaves to cherish sweet memories, her husband of 50 yrs.: Herbert K. Sydnor, Sr.; daughter: Darlene Bagby;, stepson: John Sydnor; brother: Ronald (Doretha) Barrett; sisters: Marion “TT'' Redding, Etta Barrett; granddaughters: Micha, Maurita, and Michelle Farmer; great- grandchildren: Zaire Sebree, Kaelan Sebree, Madison Farmer, Zaven Sebree and a bonus, Rodney Robinson; aunt: Christine Wagner; sister- in-law: Christine Barrett; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces/nephews and great-great nieces/nephews; many former colleagues and great friends including her best friend, Elizabeth “Betty” Sneed. Services will be held on Thursday August 11,2022 at 11 am at Memorial Baptist Church. Family and Friends may visit from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday August 10th,2022 at R. Mason Brothers Memorial Chapel.
