Arrelia (Stacy) Meriwether was born to J.B. and Shirley May Kendrick Meriwether in Montgomery County, Kentucky. The Family relocated to Evansville, Indiana where Arrelia was educated in the Evansville School System. At the age of 12, she joined Mt. Calvary Baptist church. She later graduated from Lincoln High School with a scholarship to attend Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri, where she received her undergraduate degree in Education and pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Epsilon Kappa Omega Chapter. She then attended Michigan State University where she received her graduate degree in Education. She followed her passion for teaching children with special needs in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin school system. Arrelia loved to travel the world, especially during her trip to Scotland. She later relocated to Detroit, Michigan where she started a family, joined Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, and pursued her career in education and school administration. Arrelia had two beloved children from her marriage. At Detroit Open School, she established the first student foreign exchange program with France. She later accepted a position as assistant principal at the Burton International Academy in Detroit. She was preceded in death by her brothers, George Andrew, John Curtis, Porter Louis Irvin, and Lawrence Henry Meriwether. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved son, Craig Corneal Coleman (Janetta); and her beloved daughter, Wendy Heather McClendon; five grandchildren; siblings, Lee Meriwether (Carol), Dahlia Joan Lyons (Lewis); and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
