Alice Faye Gordon, 81, transitioned on Sunday, January 8, 2023. She was born October 12, 1941, in Madisonville, KY to parents Mary Louise “Lovis” Miller and Charles Owens.
Alice graduated from Rosenwald high school and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education and art education from the Indiana State University of Evansville, currently known as the University of Southern Indiana (USI).
She retired from Evansville Vanderburgh School System after over twenty years of service as an elementary school teacher and reading and supporting students with special education needs. Alice loved inspiring young minds and sought to create a positive change in the community. After retirement, Alice continued her love of education by tutoring students in reading.
After retirement, she loved to travel and learn more about her history and culture while continuing to be a lover of art and music. Alice was extremely fond of working in her garden and fancied herself a growing historian.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents: Mary Louise (Lovis) Miller and Charles Owens; and son James C. Gordon Jr.; and brother Jesse Owens.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter: Nicole Gordon, granddaughter: Zora Gordon, and a host of cousins, friends, and family whom she spoke of often.
