Michael Eugene Johnson was born on the 16th day of August 1953 to Wanda L. Johnson-Hines and Frank Ellington in Evansville, IN. He was baptized at a young age and attended St. John United Methodist Church. He was promoted to glory on Sunday, the 22nd day of October 2023 surrounded by his loved ones. He was a graduate of Bosse High School class of 1971 and joined the U.S. Air Force in June 1974. While in the military, he was the Chief of Television Systems Support and the Chief of the Video Production Branch, Supervisor of the Close Circuit TV Section, a TV Production Technician, and an Administrative Clerk. During his 20 years of decorated military service, he obtained an Associates of Applied Science degree in Media Production and a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio, TV, and Film from the University of Southern Indiana. Upon his retirement from the U.S. Air Force, he worked for the local Evansville TV network, WEVV Channel 44, as a Master Control Operator, then transitioned to a position in the Evansville branch of the U.S. Post Office. As an inspiring entrepreneur, he was the owner/operator of his videography company MJ Productions before moving on to his most recent and final employment as Security for the Deaconess Gateway Hospital. His favorite pastime was bargain shopping where he always sought out great deals. And though he did not have a specific sports team that he cheered for; he enjoyed watching all sports. He was a hard worker in all that he did; and he was a very loving husband, father, grandfather (affectionately known as Pa-Pa), and son. When he retired from the military, he remained faithful to his military values and applied them in every aspect of his life.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents Norman Johnson Sr. and Arletta Johnson. He leaves behind his cherished wife of 49 years, Sue Trice-Johnson; children Tameshia Johnson of OFallon, IL, Korie (Karen) Johnson of Centennial, CO, and Tiffany (Patrick) Saunders of Puerto Rico; grandchildren Kajeon, Kayden, and Kyrie of Centennial, CO, Jordan Walker of OFallon, IL, and Levi Saunders of Puerto Rico; his mother Wanda L. Hines, sister Karen (William) Jackson, brothers Robert (Sheilah) Madison Jr. and Ryan Gray all of Evansville, IN; sister-in-law Linda Trice of Evansville, IN, brothers-in-law Frank and Michael Trice of Phenix City, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Michael will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Rest easy MJ ‘til we meet again. Love you babe.
